THE
PAWN SHOP
W
The Pawn Shop is a conceptual interpretation of the desire to escape— a permanent component of human nature. Nobody is truly exempt from escapist tendencies. Though of course, the subject of escape, as well as its form, differs for each person. This project itself is a process of reflection of the relationship between the artist and her form of escapism.
The artist finds it hard to process certain emotions, most times she finds herself avoiding them. Not wanting to carry the responsibility of feeling, projecting those swirling thoughts onto something else becomes the easiest way out. An easy escape, isn’t it?
Through found objects and other experimental mediums, Varra tries to convey this part of herself that she doesn’t quite understand yet. The Pawn Shop, which was originally planned as a spacial installation, now a whirlwind of a journey guided by two mischievous figures.
